Cross Town Rivalries
Tokay vs Lodi basketball game. The entire gym packed. Everyone in the bleachers is standing up screaming throughout the entire game. No one’s sitting. One entire half of the gym is purple and gold while the other side’s red, representing school colors. Guys painting their bodies spelling out “TOKAY”. The school band is playing to get everyone pumped up. Mascot is running around. All the students in the stands participating in synchronized cheers and chants. Sound level leaving you deaf. Screaming so much you’re losing breath and getting light headed. Throat is hurting and so is your hands from clapping. The score’s constantly going back and forth between the two teams. Then in the last 5 seconds of the game, it’s tied, the anticipation is building up, and Tokay makes the winning shot. 53-51. Buzzer rings and the bleachers are immediately emptied out. Everyone’s running down the steps. The entire court is filled while everyone’s circling the basketball players jumping around. Outside you’re driving around the parking lot with people standing in the backs of trucks. Bodies sticking half way out windows. Everyone’s celebrating.
